World Autism Day – Friday, April 2, 2010

Friday, April 2nd, 2010 is World Autism Awareness Day and the entire month of April marks Autism Awareness Month.  Here are some things you can do to show your support!

Wear Blue!

Pass out blue ribbons in your workplace, at your children’s school, at the gym, etc. and encourage others to wear the blue ribbons in honor of World Autism Awareness Month. You can also pass out fact cards with the ribbons.

Light It Blue!

Help Alpha Xi Delta and Autism Speaks raise awareness through the Light It Blue campaign. Many of the world’s most famous buildings, government offices, and monuments will be lit blue in honor of World Autism Awareness Day. The Empire State Building in New York City, the Sears Tower in Chicago, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland –  just to name a few! Let’s not stop there… you can bring the Light It Blue campaign to your home, community, or workplace. Replace your traditional light bulbs with blue light bulbs or shine a blue spotlight on your house, office, or at a local landmark. Bulbs and spotlights can be purchased at Home Depot or a local hardware store. If using light bulbs or spotlights isn’t an option, you can create luminaries with small blue paper sacks and tea lights. The sacks can be purchased at Michaels and you can find tea lights at Walmart.
